If you shop online, there are two applications you NEED to know about. The first which many of you have probably heard of is Ebates. Ebates allows you to earn cash back on things you already buy online from stores like Amazon, Target, Macy’s, Kohl’s, Shutterfly, and Zulily. All you have to do is initiate your purchase from the Ebates site. I added the Ebates browser extension so every time I’m shopping on a site associated with Ebates, it notifies me to active my cash back offer. Every three months, Ebates sends you a cash back payment for the purchases you’ve made in the previous quarter. You have the option to get paid via Paypal, via check, or donate your cash back amount to a charity, organization, or family member. Here’s a snapshot of my cash-back earnings right now. In the past month, I’ve earned $20.31 for things I was going to purchase anyway. Not bad!
Use Honey to Quickly Find Coupon Codes and Promo Codes
In addition to earning cash back, I’m going to show you how you can save money on these same purchases and in some cases by using an application called Honey. Honey is a service that makes it ridiculously easy to save time and money. Honey automatically finds coupon codes and promo codes for the site you’re shopping at and applies the codes to your order when you check out, saving you money and coupon-searching time. I used to spend hours searching for the best deals online and Honey does it for me in a matter of seconds!
Save More Money by Using Ebates and Honey
Now I’m going to show you how you can stack Ebates and Honey along with some great discounts you can find online on deal sites like Groupon. It had been a few months since I had gotten my hair cut and colored. The past couple of times, I had gone to a high-end salon and ended up paying around $270 for a cut, root touch-up, and highlights. I wasn’t uber happy with the results so I decided to try a new salon I had seen on Groupon. The deal was for a haircut and balayage highlights, a value of $160, for just $85. I thought the Groupon deal was a steal already but wait, it gets better! I used my Honey browser plugin to automatically search for any coupon codes I could use on Groupon. It found a code for 25% off, saving me an additional $21.25 off the already discounted haircut and color, bringing my Groupon total down to $63.75.
Next, I activated my cash back from Ebates using the browser extension to earn an additional 6% cash back on my Groupon purchase. As you will see in my Ebates snapshot above, I earned $9.56 cash back from the Groupon purchase so the total amount I paid for my haircut and balayage highlights, after my cash back was just $54.19. Much better than the $270 I paid last time I had my hair done! I actually redeemed my Groupon voucher over the weekend and I have to say, my hair looks fabulous!
